natural beauty treatments

I logged off after writing my last post and went to work on some elements of my recent nightly routine and it occurred to me that there is more than fasting happening in this effort to rejuvenate myself in the next week or so, and I thought these might be some interesting things to write down as well.

I've always been a big believer in natural beauty treatments and remedies, and in an effort to be refreshed, renewed and my best possible self for my upcoming Caribbean adventure I have chosen to use quite a few of my favorite natural beauty treatments on a regular schedule, and I think that once these are combined with the water fasting they will create some great results.

For about two weeks now, perhaps a little longer I have been doing a natural sugar and oil scrub every other night. I mix a fair amount of sugar, hard to say how much, maybe a cup and a half, to two cups, I've never measured it precisely and just enough good extra virgin olive oil to make a rough, grainy paste. After soaking in a warm bath for a few minutes I scrub myself down from neck to foot with the paste, circular motions, toward the heart - much like a dry brushing technique and rinse it all of with warm water (making sure you get it all is key, if you leave any behind, since it's sugar, you will be sticky), I also generally finish up with a gentle or natural body wash. So far, with the exfoliation of the sugar and the moisturizing olive oil it has vastly improved the feel and look of my skin. It's now very soft and has a soft look to it as well. I'm in my mid 30s and have problems with rough elbows and heels that I never had before now, but the sugar and olive oil scrub took care of those problems very well and very quickly.

Well thats not the only little trick I've been using lately. I mentioned that you would use the scrub from the neck down, I have not tried it on my face and I don't know if I would want to, my pores have a tendency to clog up very easily and I am always a little timid to put any sort of oil on my face, even the good kinds. That is one area where I do tend to go for the not so natural products, as I pretty much need a good, deep cleanser, if anyone knows of a natural version I would love to hear it, until then I have to stick to my store bought cleansers. But I have been using a face mask that works wonders. You may have heard mention of the kitty litter mask, which immediately makes most people squeamish or at least skeptical. Well first off, don't be silly - it's NOT used kitty litter, it's straight out of the bag brand new stuff. Yep, kitty litter. And best of all it's the very inexpensive, 100% natural clay, no color, no fragrance kind. Mix a little bit with water, and crush/dissolve it until it's a muddy paste, apply it to your clean face, leave it on until it dries, it turns quite hard (and I've found that it's best, once it's dry, to brush off any large pieces onto a napkin or something that can be tossed away, so you aren't washing chunks of clay and gravel down your drain) and then rinse the rest with warm water, followed by a bit of a cool water splash. And the results - with the first use - are fantastic, skin is soft, pores tightened, complexion evened out a bit, it's magical stuff. It simply turns out that the main ingredient in kitty litter is the same main ingredient in just about every face mask - including very high priced spa versions.

I'm still working on finding the best natural way to soften chapped lips and another for exfoliating feet. I try everything that sounds interesting or useful and those two I am still perfecting. Any input would be welcome.
