In laymans terms it means that a psychiatrist actually takes into consideration what amino acids and nuerotransmitters you are lacking and often either provide amino acid therapy treatments (some of which you can buy at GNC..which I don't recommend) They may also prescribe a nutritional way of life to live (diet) to help rebalance any nuerotransmitters which are out of whack. It is a specific subfield of psychiatry and I have found it difficult to find alot of information on it. There are a couple of webites...try goggle and put the words Orthomolecular Psychiatry in it. It will take you to a few sites which you might find helpful.
it has been my experience (of researching) that a naturapath doctor essientally can do the same thing...just has a ND instead of MD...But I need to do more research on it. If I find anything else I will post it.
ps.. a few friends of mine went to an addictionologist psychiatrist who also uses amino acid therapy and lost a lot of weight (30female and 40male both in late 50's) and their moods were more stable!!
