Hi friend! It seems the vast majority of docs love mirena and do not like to give any credibility to side effects. Unfortunately, this does a huge disservice(to say the least) to those of us who trust these docs and have Mirena placed only to get the very side effects we questioned them about initially. The way that side effects are assessed is in clinical trials. These statistics are usually made available in each drugs doctors prescribing insert. This is Mirena's insert:
Please note the adverse affects section! Another unfortunate fact is Mirena's maker got FDA approval without knowing how its own birth control works. This is a quote from the previous site regarding how the hormone is released in patients, "Metabolic clearance rates may differ
among individuals by several-fold, and this may account in part for wide
individual variations in levonorgestrel concentrations seen in individuals using
levonorgestrel-containing contraceptive products." Basically this is a way for them to say they are unclear how quickly the hormone exits each of our bodies on a daily basis. Scary to think it could be accumulating in high volumes on a daily basis and the company cannot tell us definitively when and if it is even metabolized. Just my take on the matter!
I personally believe that doctors are getting some kick backs to get their patients to use this product and is similar to the vaccine industry. Vaccines are the bread and butter of pediatric docs and it seems that Mirena is the bread and butter of the OBGYN's. I will tell you that my OBGYN(he is relatively new to me since I fired my last one LOL)is fantastic and he does know that Mirena can cause serious debilitating side effects and has recommended no hormonal BC for at least six months(like I would even go there ever again:)) and has also told me that the body does take six months to recover after getting Mirena removed.
Really the only proof a competent doctor needs is a presenting patient who has all the obvious side effects from a hormonal BC. A knowledgeable, compassionate OBGYN can spot these side effects from a mile away. There is a post a few pages back that talks about how Dr's minimize patients reports of side effects from drugs. This would be a good read for you to understand why the Dr.'s do not always listen to their patients concerns. This seems to be an issue with Mirena and with many other drugs as well!
Well take care friend and please tell your wife I hope she is feeling 100% better soon!!!!!:):):)
