I wish I had been more educated several years ago before my son got the root canals. I was already leary of doctors but my knowelege on dentistry was zero. I had no idea about oil pulling then or the dangers of root canals.

yeah thats much better. stuff aint always black and white which sometimes tends to be the curezone way of thinking (just as allopathic is)

Great article - Molly should get a black belt in web surfing. All this talk about bacteria makes me want to pull with oregano. Or maybe mix in some calcium hydroxide. Just paranoia I guess since I've never had a root canal. I'm so glad I discovered OP, though, since I was always fearing that right of passage that about everyone I know has been through.

I've read Goldman's article previously. Personally, I'll stick with Price; his work is soooo detailed. One who hasn't read his works can't be properly convinced of their value by a few words on a screen, so I won't attempt.

Regarding Goldman's statement:

"Today calcium hydroxide is recognized by root canal specialists as being one of the most - if not the most - potent sterilizing agents that can be placed in the root canal space. Also, it is non-toxic and it stimulates the bone to repair around the infected root."

I dissent. Strong lime is but one of many substances that could be placed in the root space. But what goldy neglects is that the tooth has nerves for a good reason - which is to effect repair by signaling through substance P, and guess what, when there's no nerve left, the tooth is dead and can no more be stimulated to repair around the infected root than can any other dead bone. So , as worded, I view his statement as misleading. Best way to deal with an infected root, is to eliminate it at the source. Otherwise, assured repeated visits to the dentist are in the future.

A dentist told me I needed a root canal a year ago. I disagreed and havn't seen him since. Been putting IP6 on it. I'll pull that tooth before I let anyone fill it up with putty. My one grandfather is 94 and has no teeth at all. If need be, I have plenty of time to lose a few. I don't take dental advice from any single "dentist" any more than I take air conditioner advice from any one HVAC dude. When they have a self-serving financial interest involved, it's a conflict of interest to listen to them, and often other opinions come back with completely different advice. Often, with dentists, the advice is the same since there are but few procedures in their bag of tricks for making payday, and the problems with teeth aren't that varied either.

Well goodness, this, like anything else, has so many twists and turns, that every answer brings forth another question.

My son had a horrible accident, broke both sides of his jaw, one side pierced the ear as it broke, chipped both front teeth, got a gash under his chin that exposed bone and had 20 stitches on the outside and 5 on the inside, and a concussion with chances of brain damage. His mouth was wired shut for over a month and soooo much more. God is so good and his recovery was awesome despite the doctors reports sometimes.

When it came time to finally deal with the two front teeth we had been through soooo much it never occurred to me to question a root canal. Honestly we have been blessed with healthy teeth and never dealt with dentist work.

So...yes, reading this scares me, but I refuse to let fear dictate my actions. My son also has PC, which despite doctors saying he needed surgery, God led us to a wonderful man who used alternative therapy and surgery was avoided.Oil pulling is not the first "weird" thing I have tried, lol. There are sooo many wonderful alternatives out there, it's up to us to find them. So I will continue to educate myself and do what I can but I can not and will not live in fear and will give this over to God also.

In the meantime, it never hurts to take precautions and hopefully I will someday get him to oil pull.

Oh, I was so uneducated about rootcanals I did not question the proceedure, so I have no idea what he filled them with...it looked like grey posts. :( sadly.
