so let me start from the beginning...i've never been a bc person, i've always opted for the pull out method. but after my second daughter was born i thought wow! mirena sounds great! low hormones, no more periods and no! side effects (thats what my doc. said). so i did it and before i even left the office i knew it was a mistake. the mood swings started the next day! my mid wife side it was a case of the baby blues, but my husband knew it was the mirena. other then that the only other side effect i had was bleeding! not only did i go through 9 months of being pregnant with the wonderful! postpartum bleeding but i also bleed after it was inserted...and it never stopped! heavy bleeding.
so after asking my doc to remove it, which she said "honey, that thing cost $500, you need to give it a cnance!",(forget that,i wanted my body back!) and finding this site about everyone going through hell b/c no one (docs) will say they admite its the mirena and remove it w/out a fight and plus the fact that i ran out of pads which i've nbeen waring for 3 months straight!
so anyways...i went to feel the string, which again my doc said it was cloth like and i would not even know it was there! bullsh*t! it was like thin wire! so i squatted and gently pulled(i was in the shower). i didn't feel anything so i wasn't sure if it was coming out, all i knew was the string (wire) was getting longer and then...it was out!!! i'm free!!! no more side effects or bleeding! no more birth control controlling my body! i guess its back to the pull out method:)
so can you remove mirena yourself? i did but everyone is different so i won't recommend it. but i guess its always an option.
