Oil pulling with braces

MoreMy 13 year old son wants to try oil pulling, but he has braces on his teeth.
Is this safe to do?
I am concerned that the areas of teeth not covered with braces will whiten, and when he gets the braces off there will be marks where they were.

I don't think anyone has OPed and then had their braces off. But I do know some posters that do OP with braces.
Personally, I think that if there is some sort of mottled effect when they are taken off, you would just need to continue to OP after, and they will eventually even out. It will be like that anyway, and you should feel lucky you found a way to whiten teeth that is safe.
The one thing that comes to mind is how hard braces are on the dental health of the mouth. OPing would mitigate the damage done to the gums. I would most definitely OP while having braces just for that reason.

I agree with Molly -- braces can be really hard on the mouth, especially if one has Amalgam fillings, so OP will counteract that.
And I have to compliment you on your enlightened son! It would be great if he started a new OP trend among teenagers...I bet girls would love it for the cosmetic effects alone (tooth-whitening and skin-clearing). It's so great that your son can start thinking along wellness lines at an age when so many kids are starting to think along self-destructive ones. He'll be glad he did when he's 40 and everyone else is getting root canals like crazy, and he has got strong, healthy teeth in a healthy mouth.

This is a reply to # 1,098,147my only concern would be if the oil somehow affects the adhesion of the braces. i'm no scientist, but the oil might loosen the adhesive on the teeth. you may want to talk to his orthodontist about this and see what he says about the glue.
oil pulling has been great for me. my dentist told me i had the cleanest mouth he'd ever seen. my teeth are white, firmly set in my gums, my breath is fresh and me teeth are smooth. my skin looks pretty good too! (i use coconut oil)
