I had one in 1983 but fortunately personally knew the chief of surgery at a hospital in Michigan, who assured me I'd NEVER get another one again. He was right, so far and I'm grateful because about a month ago I strained myself lifting something but ole Steve's stitch job still held. I thought of the horror of having to go in for surgery and as a result plan to never lift anything again.
Check CZ's hernia forum, as I recall there is a link somewhere to a hospital in Canada that specializes in this. I'm also aware of two people who died on the operting table during hernia surgery and another guy who they screwed up, had to go back in a second time, which they screwed up and had to go in a third time, before they got it right but he died soon thereafter. Should be a routine thing, but not so routine unless one uses an experienced surgeon.
