If you don't mind paying a little extra for better quality of food....there is always the organic varieties of dog food and cat food. We try to mix some organic in with the commercial food and give the cats the organic canned varities along with some raw meat, raw eggs from time to time. Not sure what type of dog you have and what diet is best for them. You may have to research that one! The organic animal foods at the health food store usually are based on whole foods and are devoid of dangerous foods like soy, corn and animal byproducts. Definately BETTER than what they would get from commercial food. There are many books out there that teach you how to make your own dog food or raw dog food. They are all over the internet. Like MH said....let him catch what he wants while roaming outside. My cats love to catch mice and other rodents, lizards for a meal and then I feed them once a day. I let them roam outside!
