I have been inflicted with this debilitating and embarrassing problem for over a year and a half now. This forum really helped me at times and I literally tried every "cure" I could find in here and the internet.
People are very cruel and when your breath smells like poo it is very hard to interact socially. I can understand what everyone is going through here so I thought my story may help some of you.
I would estimate I have spent in excess of $15K buying various supplements, candida killers, as well as GP and specialist visits. Tried all the mouthwashes, peroxide, baking soda, nasal irrigation etc. It was an absolute nightmare and I was becoming more and more reclusive and not getting any better. Doctors were unable to help and just kept prescribing drugs or saying "Ï cant smell anything". Went to E.N.T specialist and was given another prescription of Antibiotics . Went to a Gastroenterologist and had an endoscope as well as a barium x-ray. Nobody could find anything wrong with me.
A work colleague recommended his chiropractor who was also a naturopath. After about 30 minutes of consultaion and testing she said - your stomach is only working at 15% capacity. She prescribed Golden Seal (500mg) 3 times a day with meals and a Vitamin E supplement twice a day at any time. This was to be carried out for 20 days.
After about 10 days my breath was back to normal and I was digesting food properly again. It must be noted that I was already on a very strict no sugar/gluten/yeast diet (the anti candida diet) during this time. Although I'm not sure how effective that is because it didn't really seem to be working for me. It may have really helped the supplements heal my stomach though.
I now can eat and drink anything once again, although my lifestyle and diet is obviously much healthier than before.
Please feel free to ask any questions, I live in Australia and the doctor I saw is in Brisbane.
Please note that I am not interested in getting into a debate on what works, why this works, why that doesn't work etc. I know what worked for me and have posted this to help the other people who are still afflicted. Everything is worth a try.

This is a reply to # 1,486,738Congratulations on getting this problem sorted out. It's funny how such a simple remedy as Goldenseal and vitamin E can have such a massive effect. Are you still taking those two supplements or is there no need to now? I think that my odour problems are caused by parasites but after googling Goldenseal I might add it to my list of supplements as it seems to have a lot of benefits.

Hi,
No I don't take those supplements anymore. I take a probiotic called inner health plus and a multivitamin daily. I've certainly learned a lot about my body during this process, everyones cure will be a little different I'm sure. For what its worth my Naturopath practised something called Kinesiology which I had never seen or heard of prior to walking into her Chiropractic clinic. Google that and see if there is a practitioner in your area. 2 Years ago I would have dismissed it all as quackery, but obviously am a firm believer now :)
My workmate who recommended the naturopath had been having problems with high cholesterol with no luck from conventional medicine for quite a while. He also had been visiting a chiropractor for a back problem and they recommended some supplements to take after diagnosing his problem via Kineseology. This lowered his levels quite quickly, sohe thought they may have been able to help me.
I was willing to try anything but certainly didn't have high expectations. It has sure been a life changing experience.

Surfer 27 here. I just noticed a posted text from you, that I received from a friend of mine, regarding your success with that Goldenseal you took. I also noticed you mentioned, being a Candidia diet. Is the Candidia diet, fairly similar to the Gluten free diet? Or is it, totally different? You also mentioned taking 500mg of goldenseal daily 3 times a day right? What does Goldenseal do health wise for a person internally? Do you know? What kind of brand of Goldenseal did you use, while on the strict diet you were on? If you could let me know, that'd be great, as I have been suffering with these Rectum Odor Smells for 3yrs that I can't control. Thanks and take care.

The brand of Golden Seal is Natures Own and was taken in capsule form with my meals. I'm not exactly sure what it does internally. The way it was explained to me by the Dr was my stomach was only processing food at 15% capacity. She prescribed the supplements to get it working properly again. I think there may have been a problem with the lining or some sort of cell damage. I have another appointment later this month as a follow up so will ask some more questions. I neglected to mention in my post that I was already taking a probiotic at the time and have continued taking it daily.
The candida diet is brutally hard to stick to and much more strict than a gluten free diet. It is basically No Sugar, Yeast, Gluten, Alcohol, Fruit, Vinegar, Mushrooms and anything else remotely tasty or enjoyable to eat :)The hardest thing is no alcohol! There is a lot of information about this diet on the web you just have spend some time reading about it. Be wary of the quick fixes, I wasted a lot of money buying miracle cures. I'm still not 100% sure the diet had any real effect but it certainly didnt do any harm. I have developed a lot of self discipline because of it and certainly appreciate food a lot more now.
My advice would be to try and locate a good naturopath in your area and seek their advice. GP's dont really seem to be much help with this problem in my experience. Good luck with everything, hope this helps in some way.

Although you are trying differnt foods did your Nutralist suggest that you continue to take goldenseal in much lower dosage like once daily or something? Going back to your old way of eating is not hard to do. If your digestive system is what was being effected(which I'm sure because Goldenseal works on tn the immune system) should you be taking other digestive other aids like a digestive enzyme to continue the progress in your digestive system besides probotics? A lot of things happen to heart patients after they have gone back to their old eating habits after having heart surgery.Be encouraged!

MrHanky and Sufer Ive been suferring from bad fecal breath sence a was a child, my breath smells like poo , I had 4 years when an other child told me that a had bad breath, now am 40 and still have it, but I know smells like poo cause everyone asks me if a fart in many ocaisions am I smell it too, have any of you guys know of a case like mine ?? have this nightmire can end to me ?? This is a reply to # 1,509,146Hi --I found that foods and drinks containing the many forms of sulfite preservatives in them somehow reacted in my gut and I exhaled hydrogen sulfite (rotten egg gas.) Not much is documented on this percular illness, but I discovered it eventually through trial and error -- wine, beer, dryed fruit, apple cyder, some baked goods, etc etc canned veges, sometimes graps are sprayed with sulfite etc etc its everywhere. all the best -- if this works(it may not be the cause for you) please spread it around to others thanks

Well I can't really express how happy I am that this worked for me. Not sure if it will work for everyone, but I've been in your shoes and I was willing to try anything. Good luck

it is very difficult socially. and psychologically u go through a lot of negative thoughts. ive faced the problem. The causes may be coz of numbers of disease and disorders..
In my case, doctor check up the urine, stool, blood & also tested the dental hygiene as well. but there was nothing wrong. and after all that, doctor refer for endoscopy. After endoscopy, they found active ulcer in my stomach. and im going to doctor again to show the endoscopy report.
on the similar case (very bad breath), my maternal uncle also founded with ulcer when i told my story to him.
and in conclusion, there were some of my relative who have the same problem. so i think it may be hereditary cause.
but u cant confirm your disease without visiting the doctor. so i suggest, dont hesitate to visit doctor.

I would have to agree with you. I was taking Mitamins for BO and one of the ingredients was golden seal. They now have advance Mitamins for fecal BO. I ordered some goldenseal recently to take with my probotics and digestive enzymes, and it does strenghten your immune system,God bless!

That's a very good point and something I'm still wary of. Its only early days yet and has been about a month.
I am slowly trying different foods in small doses and waiting to see if there is any effect the next day.
So far so good :) I'm feeling a lot better internally so am confident this is not a temporary fix.
I travel frequently and am enjoying not having any snide remarks from other airline passengers :)
I'm yet to have a drink, have been saving a nice bottle of wine which I plan to crack after I'm given the all clear at my next appointment.

It's a very difficult situation to be in. I found it helped a lot to find have someone to talk with about the problem.
I tried a few different GP's but they only really were interested in prescribing drugs. One doctor told me he couldn't smell anything! This was after I'd just got off a plane and left the other passengers around me gasping for air at the terminal.
I'm sure you will find a cure too, don't give up.
