only used for HYPOthyroidism? Meaning, is it harmful for hyper?
My dog may possibly have a hyperthyroidism issue. The bad thing is that in dogs, this typically only occurs if there is a tumor on the thyroid or pituitary gland. I was wondering if Iodine
would help or hurt her. The only levels tested are T4 and Free T4.
I didn't always get the results, because I guess those tests take longer than other regular blood test results, which I always have a copy faxed to me. She has blood work done twice a year (because I had a very sick dog previously and want to stay on top of things). I recently asked the vet for all of her thyroid results.
The T4 seems to be good, but I noticed one of her tests showed the Free T4 to be way above the normal range. Her value was 61 and the normal range goes up to 40. This past time it was 39, so it's still at the very top of the normal range. I've been giving her supplements for her immune system and for her kidneys (her BUN level was high in the past). I'm not sure if the immune supplements may have brought the Free T4 value down some or what.
So, in the opinion of the experts on the Iodine Forum
, is iodine a good thing or a bad thing to give her? I greatly appreciate any help or advice that can be given!!!
