In my opinion, it is extremely important to have the gut healthy and balanced by adding in probiotics. Over 90% of serotonin is produced in the gut - low serotonin leads to all kinds of imbalances that affect mood.
Balancing the gut to produce more serotonin will also help the bones to heal by supporting the proliferation of osteoblasts (the cells that produce more bone).
A healthy gut will also help her to better absorb all the wonderful supplements.
I hope your mom was/is being weaned off the Prozac - slowly. I had to do this with a sleep medication a few years back and slow is the way to go.
Adding new things in slowly is equally important. Getting things back into balance is KEY so the Depression
doesn't come back. I think all too often when folks go off these meds they don't do anything healthy with diet and supplementation so they rebound. Once the body can produce serotonin and other neurotransmitters on its own it makes things a whole lot easier.
A little exercise and slow deep breathing helps too. It can be rough to come off a med but it's possible to do it safely and in a healthy way.
