You need to maintain the strength and elasticity of the tendons more than anything. This is done by increasing collagen and elastin. Silica, vitamin C sources and gotu kola will all increase collagen and elastin.
The best way to get silica is to add food grade diatomaceous earth to your water. Add a spoon full of the DE to a gallon of water and let it settle out. Drink the water off the top trying not to stir up the silica on the bottom of the jug. As the water level goes down add more water and let it settle out. Keep repeating this process. That spoon full of silica can last years, but I usually change it out every 6 months. The water will dissolve a little of the silica each time you add more water forming orthosilicic acid, which is what the body uses to form tissues. So you absorb a little silica each time you take a drink of the water. The silica not only strengthens the tendons, it also has mild anti-inflammatory properties.
In addition you can use steroidal anti-inflammatories such as yucca root, licorice root or Devil's claw to help reduce the inflammation of the tendon.
Tiger Balm or White Flower Oil are also great to apply topically to both help improve circulation and to help reduce inflammation.
