Yes, I think it's saying that, but to a lesser extent with Th1 than with Th2, so it's still changing the balance.
It's not the clearest article I've read. Great title though!
Btw, impaired or unbalanced Th1 generally means impaired anti-microbial response. But better response to multi cellular parasites.
To me, the most interesting thing that's come up in the recent talk about Mercury is how it has such a strong affinity for sulphur and cysteine, and can interfere with the exchanging of sulfhydryl groups in our chemical cycles, especially with regard to Methylation.
It seems that mercury is a potent Methylation blocker. So it effectively shuts down your ability to detox.
In this article about Methylation, it suggests that you have to remove mercury before attempting to jump start Methylation and can cause harm if you don't. Good thing I didn't read this before. I would have been nervous messing with Methylation.
It also mentions that you can roughly gauge whether you have a mercury problem by your response to B6 and TMG. Poor response suggests mercury toxicity.

As far as the "Myth" goes, I don't think a Candida problem infers a mercury problem. But I do think it presents a major block to recovery.
One thing I'm not clear on is if Mercury can be in the gut and causing inflammation, but not systemic. It does appear to be able to cause destruction of epithelial cells, so you could easily make a case for how it could impair innate immunity there and allow pathogens in, making it a cause. Hard to imagine how it would restrict itself to the gut though.
