Oklahoam- First you have to get some kefir grains. I got mine from http://www.kefirlady.com
and they worked great right from the start.
I simply put the grains in 1.2 litres of milk. The size of your grains depends on how much kefir you can make in a 24 hour period. Mine have grown and I finally can make enough kefir each day for all of us but it took about 6 weeks for them to grow. After 24 hours I strain the thickened kefir and start another batch. It really is very easy to make. If it isn't thick enough I just leave it a little longer.
Kefirlady will send you complete instructions with your order. I think my grains were $10 a couple years ago. If you keep the grains alive with fresh milk they will live forever. You can also store them in the fridge for months on end as I have when I stopped making it.
There has been a noticeable increase and size of BMs. My gut just feels better. We did go through an adjustment period that lasted about a month. Gas, bloating etc. I have been trying to boost the number of good bacteria in my gut and will also add homemade sauerkraut this summer.
