Still not able to go on a fast more than two days; most of the time even one day is hard. I have tried everything from real-wishes.com to making bets. Guess what? I just made another bet today. If I win the 22-day water fast, then next summer my brother has to walk 15 days, every day 20 minutes with me. If he wins, he gets 50 bucks. I wanted to make this bet so he will exercise.
My plan is to think of being relaxed, tranquil, and natural and this will carry me through the fast. Now, as I am pausing over what I wrote, memories of my 10-day fast in the psych ward last March comes to me. I only ended the fast out of bitterness, because a guy didn't want me. So I started eating sherbets and ice cream, and it was unusual because I never ate processed Sugar products or milk. I lost so much hair after breaking the fast. I shedded like a tree. In my moment of peace, this event, filled with loss and turbulence, came to me. I remember all the Sugar rushing to my scalp the first sherbet I ate. Then I ate out of emotions every single time afterwards. Maybe this will help motivate me to fast, because I had so much bitterness and was also cooped up in there with no freedom. Now that I have freedom outside, I should express my gratitude by fasting.

Updated my gratitude list on my iPad app Thankful shortly after writing the previous message. Doing my daily routine of copying two pages and two lines from this book, and it is too hot to do so, so I am slowing down from copying ten lines. Wonder whether it is my metabolism making it too hot or is it just the weather. I did eat at least a thousand calories today. Hold on, I shall turn on the fan in Mom's room... ahh, that's slightly better. But still too hot to copy my book. Don't know what to do because it is too hot. Think I am going to my room to go naked and meditate the rest of the night. I have a meditation playlist on YouTube. That'll occupy me for six hours.
Sweet freedom. I can taste it. I can feel it. I can see it, hear it, smell it. Realize it! I have no shackles! I am ever grateful for this, but words are not enough to express it. My actions need to express it.

This is a reply to # 2,271,150I was doing this meditation, and when it said imagine that God is talking to you, I could feel this great force around me and in me giving me ideas. Want to write it down now so I do not forget. It said that there is a light and I have not seen it yet. I took it to be both an illuminating light that you see when you reach a state higher than enlightenment and a light that could help me make new discoveries as an inventor. It said there is a force that is good, happy, righteous, that things are good, happy, righteous, and I should be good, happy, and righteous too. Things are sunny and joyous and should be sunny and joyous. I am writing the ideas backwards. There were three or four ideas and I just wrote the last two. Can't remember the ideas before it, but I had a revelation to fast to express my faith and love to God, to show my humility through action.
Today I also learned a little about my Chinese culture. I learned that in China, you cannot give advice to your elderly. You cannot talk back to them. I knew it before and didn't accept it, but today I realized that I need to conform and respect my parents' culture or I won't have a good time living with them. I won't survive living with them. I learned this from talking to my Chinese neighbor.
I wanted God to talk to me again and it said just be good, be true, do not be too good/be artful with men who want your heart, do not show them in to your life, or you could get pregnant, but you do not want to be pregnant. There is this thing of the world, and what a powerful, precious, subtle, cool thing that I (God) welcome and embrace with all my thoughts and heart and will and being. You embrace it too to make you powerful beyond all measures, and be cool about it, don't be mean not sharing with other people. Be welcoming, be flowing, be virtuous, let it seep in to you and unblock all your channels. Let you seep in to others and unblock their channels. Be grateful (I see flowers symbolizing this). Be content, be harmonious, be gest-y, press your hands in to the sand of this power, in to this warm powerful liquid (I feel it in my fingers), today, you are free. You are powerful beyond measure. You are dubious of my effects. Oh enlightened one, be powerful (I feel heat in my body), be cool, be zen, be gest-y, be grateful, and above all, be propriety. I leave you with warm embrace and good graces. Use them (the graces) well. There is a force. Feel the force.

This is a reply to # 2,271,160Failed my fast again. Made another bet again. At kind of a depressing, low point before I made the bet today again. This time I just want my $50 back. Decided that before I am going to eat next time, journal about it and dispute with myself to prevent eating. Looking at my attempted extended fast success rate, it is like below 1% likely I will succeed. But I am trying a new technique here. Learned it from a psychologist who said it is called cognitive behavioral therapy, CBT. 23 days this time. Ya... Don't know what to make of it. Falling apart. I was also regretful after eating today, of course. Feel like I am the Satan failing. I don't want to be Satan. I can even see his redness in my mind's eye. I am just so weak. But giving this notebook thing a go.
Also encountered a dilemma with God who I asked a question to. I asked him how will I succeed on my extended fast, and he kept telling me I have to marry his wife. Oh, now he changes his mind, I have to rinse (?).. I married God two years ago with a ring, saying I will never marry another... No, he says it isn't like that, I have to marry his righteous wife. Well, I wonder where to find her and whether she is a deity or a nun. He says she is a nun. He indicates it is Mother Theresa. I actually have a dream of being like Mother Theresa and one day adopting all the homeless children of the world. Also ease human suffering with my science. He says I need to make a sacrifice to her. I need to righteously fast for her. I guess that would glorify her. And I deeply care about this issue too. When emotions are involved, it beats intentions and thoughts, studies find, in having self-control and beating cravings. Another image comes to mind. I suddenly become good at school. Then, out of anger at something, I dropped three important classes. Ended up with hyperacusis pain. They say people who complain of pain are depressed. So I made myself depressed by dropping classes. This is a memory of self-inflicting pain. Funny word, self-inflicting pain. I just thought about this because I remember my emotionality made me finally good at school and my emotionality took it away. This is a reply to # 2,271,212Successfully completed Day One of fast. On Day Two right now, four hours in to it. Having a tiny headache, it hurt the most in my forehead, some feeling in mid-brain, right now left side of head hurts a little. Like I just texted my mom, being hungry in the stomach is the best, most comfortable feeling in the world. It feels like there is God's breath, God's presence in my stomach. Like there is heavenly Qi there.
Mother Theresa devotion works like a charm. It makes it so easy to fast. I know I've said this twenty times before, but this time I am really doing it! I am really fasting!- Re: Fasting for Gratitude LIndaWu

This is a reply to # 2,271,394By the time I post this message, I will have fasted for two whole days. Since 12 a.m., been feeling weak. When I sit down, I don't want to stand up unless my grandma sings to me, which she didn't, so I am not sure why I stood up all those times that I did. I think once was to get water. Feeling thirst unquenched by water yesterday and today, and Synthroid solves the problem. Had heartburn this morning for less than half a minute. I feel in a silly, funny state like I want to laugh from the weak feeling in my arms. Dizzy when I stood up, but I just give it time to adjust. I am not afraid of dizziness, a little concerned sometimes of my weakness, but I don't think eating will solve all my problems. It is just a little tradeoff, a sacrifice I've got to make. I realize the expanding, airy, messy feeling in my entire body I felt this morning was detox. I can feel and see the godly white in my organs and also the trash--the yellow bile inside. It dominates the godly white, especially in lower bowels.

This is a reply to # 2,271,525Dizzy five times. The last time I saw black while trying to adjust from sitting. Don't feel weak anymore. Had cravings for tri-mashed potatoes for half an hour. Heartburn for another minute. Played dual n-back n=5 twice on my iPad. Get bored for it easily, even though I know it is good for me.
I wonder what God will say. Spencer Knight loves me profoundly but does not want to marry. George Lu used to love me deeply, but not anymore and I am better without them. He still likes me somewhat. My little uncle, mom, Thomas, and I plus grandma can eat very little to make grandma live five years younger, or ten if it's one meal a day, etc. Without a cup of cocoa everyday, she can live a certain number of years but ten more years if she eats cocoa like I prescribed her. But no more than one cup a day. One can have too much. I feel God's presence as sparkle, magic, pressurized, heated, passionate, stronger, pink with yellow dots and wisps of blue and purple and gold. Grandma can live ten years longer if I succeed in life. I will not faint but will be weak, but it won't be hard to deal with. This is a reply to # 2,271,555One surprising benefit from fasting is that if I send out thoughts to control scratching from mosquito bites, it stops itching and I don't have to scratch anymore. This is a very intersting phenomenon that needs more research in to and studies done on. It's as if I have anti-itching biological material in my body. I used to scratch all mosquito bites until they are raw flesh, and look at me now.
Still see stars every time I stand from long-time lying or sitting. I think I am going to try standing slowly from now on. It will look weird, though, if I am attending classes and people see me stand like that or pause after standing quickly.
Moderately weak. Kind of scared of this. Was imagining myself eating particular food to stop the weakness and the dizziness from standing. But no. Still gonna do it. I don't know--I am wavering between wanting to fast and eating to remove the symptoms. But I think I might be weak in the morning like yesterday and more energetic later on. My hesitancy to move is a little disturbing. I made a to-do list for today and only did one thing.
I really wanna eat now. Not from hunger though. Maybe I will just give my brother fifty more dollars?
Well, whether I continue fasting or start eating, I have made it to 25 minutes short of three days.
God says I should fast and not quit. I listen to God so I am going to continue.
Made gagging sounds about five times so far. Not too extreme.

This is a reply to # 2,271,734OK, I ate. Energy coming back. First, I ate rice noodles, and mind you--I wasn't mindlessly eating an entire big bowl, I was scooping half out and heating it too. Sometimes I wanted to eat right away, so I didn't heat it. So one benefit is that I am eating smaller portions. I used to binge right after fasting, but it didn't happen this time. Next, that Watermelon looked delicious, and I found that Watermelon replenishes my energy faster. I could feel energy seconds after taking a bite of watermelon. I ate about 3/5 of a cup of watermelon. Watermelon had never tasted so good in my life. But one thing though--I don't think rice noodles is nutritious for the body. I read that somewhere. No more rice noodles. I would rather eat a fruit.
Before I ate, I weighed 115.2 lbs, which is amazing because before the fast, I was 119.4 on an empty stomach.
Don't know what my eating plan will be for the future or the next few days. All I know is that I ate enough today, so no more food today. I would love to go on another three-day fast, but not sure whether I might feel the same weakness early on or worse. How about I will eat a little only when I am as weak as I was before I ate just now. I plan to eat 1/2 cup of watermelon each time I am that weak. We have half a watermelon left and it is huge. If watermelon is gone, I will eat tomatoes. We have like 60 lbs of tomatoes from grandma's garden. Not sure about a banana, because I have only appetite for half a banana. I will try one. One medium banana has 105 calories. Guess that would replenish my energy pretty quick. Anyway, I believe that my eating disorder and regret from eating is gone, and like I said, I don't overeat anymore.
Another amazing thing is that I could double cross my legs while meditating last night. I am usually too fat to do so.- Re: Fasting for Gratitude LIndaWu

This is a reply to # 2,271,742I forgot to measure my blood pressure before eating. Well, after eating it was 84/64, heart rate 121. Wonder whether blood pressure was even lower than that before I ate. That would be extremely interesting to find out.
My weakness is gone, but the thing is, I still see stars or black after standing from a sitting position. I guess we know why, seeing that 84 is the high blood pressure. Is the higher one called like systolic or diastolic? I always get the two mixed up. Wonder whether after I digest the little amount of food I ate, my higher blood pressure will go up. The lower blood pressure is fine. I would actually like it to be 60, so it is 4 points higher than it is supposed to be. It's just the higher one being 6 points lower. The ideal would be 90. This is a reply to # 2,271,746I just realized something. I could have not eaten and lay in bed and watched videos on my iPad. I heard that when you're fasting, you're not supposed to move a lot anyway. I just couldn't think outside the box. Wanted to do something like the next to-do list item. Well, next time, I could just do what I realized I could have done. Well, all in all, despite this, I am liking this one-meal-in-three-days thing. This famous university did a study that found that your entire immune system is reset after three days fasting. So at least I accomplished that.

I am not sure about that. Autolysis starts after about ~3 days, so one meal every three days halts autolysis just as it is starting.
Regarding the immune system, I am sure it takes longer than 3 days.
Now, to strengthen your immune system after fasting, make some homemade sauerkraut. The probiotic count in that is very high, and it is very cheap and easy to make. The reason being that the bacteria in one's tract comprise two-thirds of their immune system.- Re: Fasting for Gratitude LIndaWu

Now that I just ate, I keep having cravings for watermelon, but I resisted at least twice. My motivation is Mother Theresa. On the immune system, make homemade sauerkraut (it has to be homemade) and eat it. It is a very high probiotic count, which strengthens the immune system.

This is a reply to # 2,271,761I finished reading the first article link you gave. I was just confused over how many days to fast, and it gave me the answer. It said that one day gives the body rest, three days is minor breakdown, and five to seven days is overhaul. Then I'll go for the five to seven days. I also like the idea of doing something weekly and monthly. I am going to fast every other week from Thursday to Sunday. Four days. Monday to Wednesday, I will eat one-half of a meal a day. Then on the other every other week, I will fast Wednesday to Sunday and eat Monday and Tuesday. It also said in there that three days offsets the immune system, but I think you're on to something when you said eating after three days stops autolysis right when it's starting.
But I disagree with the author that low metabolism is bad. Yes, it will make you fat if you revert back to eating more, but you shouldn't do that. You should eat less. Low metabolism actually makes you live longer. So why wouldn't you want to eat less?
I am only halfway through the second link, but its description of plants and animals going through autolysis while being a pupal, seed, embryo, or regenerating or absorbing a tail is pretty interesting. I'll take a break and read the rest later. Hit me with more links to read or watch, kmg4! I'm loving these!
I did some research and found that what I am going through is called postural hypotension. I ate like 1,500 calories today with lots of sodium wanting to correct that, but no, I still get it after eating for eleven hours and sleeping after each time eating! This is a reply to # 2,271,761OK, I finished reading the second article. It comes from Soil and Health Library, which is a mother load of information. It's interesting how you can cut up a begonia leaf and it can grow everything back, and how rose and fig stems can grow roots by themselves. My neighbor gave me dalias once, and she told me the stems couldn't be planted, because they won't grow without the root. And onions and tubers go through autolysis too. Anyway, thanks for giving me the links.
Now, rethinking over my diet plan, I think I can withstand a month of the four- and five-day fasts. After that, I will eat one half meal every two days. Not sure whether I would enter starvation if I eat one half meal in three days, so I am not trying that.
If the stars and darkness are just detox, then I won't be afraid of it. I think my fear for that is carrying over to a new dislike of darkness. Darkness used to be soothing and comforting. Now I am almost afraid of it. - Re: Fasting for Gratitude LIndaWu

This is a reply to # 2,271,761I see that postural hypotension is a result of blood going to the legs and less to the heart and brain and so the heart must pump harder and blood vessels constrict. Blood is pooled at the legs. I see one thing to do is to exercise the legs more and squeeze your calves before getting up. I really haven't been exercising while on this fast, but every time I walk around, this hypotension goes away. I will exercise for an hour each day.

This is a reply to # 2,272,011No vinegar. Just cabbage and Sea Salt . No extra liquid added (the microbes in the cabbage will eventually ferment the cabbage and generate liquid).
You just have the shred the cabbage fine, pound it a bit with a mallet, and add the Sea Salt . In 1-3 weeks, sauerkraut.- Re: Fasting for Gratitude #69242

Canning pickling salt is very good without the additives.
I found some organic stuff via a Buddhist Restaurant which has some great food via for fasting.

This is a reply to # 2,271,751Measured blood pressure a second time, because I thought digesting food will raise blood pressure, and instead it was even lower--81/54, hr 141. So I went and drank a cup of water. Then it became 92/66, very normal, hr 121. After eating and drinking water, weight 117.6 lb. not bad. Guess it is from eating half a bowl only and not too much watermelon. I used to gain like five lb from eating. This time only two lb. Very good.

I have the opposite problem, BP of 145/100 on average, but a HR of 70-72..
