I don't know if you will remember, but I was taking about 100mg of Iodine
back in the summer along with the co-supplements.
I am on a ketogenic diet (50 grams of protein, the rest of my calories come from animal fat because I can't tolerate carbohydrates). I normally get a lot of vitamin A because this animal fat I consume is clarified butter.
I developed major symptoms of hypothyroid on this after a few weeks. Couldn't speak properly, cold intolerance, major pain in the thyroid. I felt great at first, but felt progressively worse as time went on. So, I stopped taking the iodine.
Recently, I tried to lower the vitamin A I consume by consuming beef tallow. The second night of doing this, I developed an irregular and fast heart beat, began shaking uncontrollably, and generally felt hyperthyroid. I thought it was high calcium, so I quit taking my vitamin D and K2 supplements and this seemed to help, but it did not entirely fix the problem.
Then, I took some zinc and copper the other day and this cause the same problem, which is what convinced me that this may be a hyperthyroid problem.
I am considering taking the Iodine
again, but I am terrified to do so for fear that it might make these symptoms even worse. The skipped heart beats and racing heart are so terrifying I don't even know how to convey it properly.
Any advice? I live like 20 minutes away from Dr. Brownstein's practice and have sent them an e-mail to see if I can get in to get tested, but no response yet.
