I'm 15 years old, and this is my second attempt at a water fast. I only started today so obviously no symptoms are showing. My last attempt was about a month ago; it didn't go well. On the third night I tried walking to my kitchen for more water, and I got there easily. but the way back- I lost my vision- everything was black. I remember my back hurting so bad all the sudden I didn't think I could walk- All I remember is whispering "so much pain so much pain help" I barely made it to my room- I fell onto my bed and dropped the water bottle. I don't remember if I went to sleep after that or passed out. But it was pretty traumatic. I am not happy with my weight and due to a thyroid problem its VERY hard for me to lose it by "eating right and exercise" This is pretty much my only option at this point. How can I do this fast successfully, without dying, or having a traumatic experience.

What are you taking for thyroid support?
Any history of mild hypoglycemia?
Have you considered taking various supplements while on your fast--electrolytes, magnesium, some amino acids from whey powder, B & C vitamins, etc?

Hi Juliii,
If you feel the way you did you should have stopped the fast at the fist sign of not feeling right. Always listen to your body. That's the way it talks to you.
You're better off doing one or two day fasts multiple times until your body gets accostomed to going without food. Once you get to that point, you can add a day.
Also I have to tell you something that you and all the other people hate to hear that fasting is not the way to lose weight. Well you will lose weight during the fast, but because you will have slowed your metabolism down by fasting, when you start eating all the weight will return plus some extra.
It's in what you eat, and the reason you are eating to begin with. Eat to live like animals do instead of living to eat.

You should listen to yourself, you were ill last time. Don't do it again.
Better in my opinion you take a little more moderate approach, and try something like juice fasting or smoothie making.
And give yourself a break, trying to kill your body is not going to help you.
If you are forcing yourself it will not last. You have to love yourself and work with yourself and be positive.
Self-torture is not a good long-term strategy.

I was the same btw. I tried all the extreme stuff too and felt terrible.
But you know what it just didn't work. I bounced back and stuffed my face.
What worked is ... smoothie making. What worked is one-pot rich and veggies. Simple food, healthy food. Cashew nut butter, that works !!!
It's slower ... but it's also for your whole life. In the long run you will be happier.
