MoreHi all, I'll be starting dmsa and ala andy cutler protocol tomorrow. I want to make sure I'm doing this right. Please check my dosage schedule. I hope it's fine. Let me know if I should add something.
For 1st to 3rd day
DMSA 6.25mg + Vitamin C 50mg
Every 4 hrs
For 4th to 7th day
Take a multivitamin + probiotic everyday
Repeat for 4 more rounds
Then take DMSA 6.25mg + Vitamin C 50mg + 12.5mg ALA, Every 3 hours (3.5 hrs during bed time).
For 1st to 3rd day.
For 4th to 7th day
Take a multivitamin + probiotic everyday
continue for 2 months before increasing dosage

This is a reply to # 2,336,209The dose of DMSA is what I'd expect a rather sick person to try, someone who struggles to work or who is disabled. It might be used by someone who has to work to support a family and so can't afford to have more than tiny amounts of side effects.
The dose frequency is what Andy C recommends for most people. Some people prefer taking DMSA every 3 hrs. I am one.
AC really stresses the importance of taking generous amounts of antioxidants while kicking up heavy metals HMs. That includes 1000 IU or more Vitamin E.
At times he can be a blunt, grumpy old professor as seen below. However that is part of the reason I like him. He is semi-retired so he doesn't have to care what anyone in the "establishment" thinks about him. He can just say what he thinks based on the Science as he understands it.

That is also why I like Boyd Haley, PhD Chemistry and Stephanie Seneff, a PhD researcher at MIT. They are grey haired professors who just tell you what they think. They are not MDs who have to worry about medical boards, insurance companies, etc.
I wake to take extra antioxidants a few hours after my last dose of the round to help with mop up. This includes selenium that binds quite well with HMs.
Cutler's short list of supplements also includes magnesium and zinc.
More than a few of us get stiff muscles while on round. For me it tends to be my neck, calves maybe lower back or lower abdomen. Mg, electrolytes and extra fluids seem to help.
Zinc and some HMs are chemically similar and so compete to some extent. Zn is used in so many enzymes in our body. This is one reason that HMs cause so many different symptoms.
If you feel no side effects while on round and the day after, and you are not very sick, you might try 12mg doses on the next round. 12mg is a more common starting dose in people who are not very sick.
You will likely benefit from some supplements, maybe dietary changes based on your symptoms. This could include support for adrenals, maybe thyroid, low gluten and sugar, etc. A few people are sensitive to high sulfur foods and supplements.

This is a reply to # 2,336,320Looks like I have to stop taking dmsa because I'm starting to feel some kind of tightness and bubbling feeling in my lower mid back(kidney?). I hope it stops eventually. I'm thinking of trying to detox and support kidney and liver first before starting again.
I have read about dr Haley. He said his product OSR#1 was a good product but FDA stopped it. I heard his new product ndmi which might be coming out end of this year will be just as good. I read they are not as harsh to liver and kidney like the dmsa or ala can. I have also read a little bit about a company called quicksilver(just do a google search). They don't like using dmsa to detox and prefer their product instead. They have some free webinar explaining the Science of heavy metal detox. This is a reply to # 2,336,377I'm not surprised about the tightness in your back if you were not taking magnesium as Cutler strongly recommends. I mentioned it in my previous post.
Chris Shade of Quicksilver has some youtube videos. You'll see from them that everyone makes some mistakes along with way. Even people with PhD in chemistry don't think this through carefully before jumping in.

The Files section of yahoo's frequent dose chelation group has fairly simple tips for using DMSA.
Honestly unless you know you have mostly a lead problem I'd use DMPS. Cutler says most people can take it every 6-8 hrs. It often has a smoother feel to it--fewer side effects--however a few people get a rash and so cant take it.
My understanding is that Haley's OSR was just renamed, has been in testing in Europe for a few years. I don't think it is a true "chelator" that helps the body to get rid of heavy metals. I think it is an antioxidant like selenium that binds rather tightly with HMs so they don't do so much damage.
When I was considering options for my HM problem--mostly work related lead and cadmium--OSR was still available. I decided to start with the chelators with a longer track record--DMSA--along with ALA to remove mercury from the brain--when used correctly! After a year of that I would reevaluate my situation and possibly try OSR.
I did well on DMSA + ALA during my first 1.5 yrs and so did not experiment with OSR. My bone density and kidney blood tests normalized. I got a number of less impressive gains--improved food sensitivities , no eye floaters, improved mood, memory, endurance, less introverted personality, etc.
Some people in yahoo's adult metal chelation have tried Quicksilver's products. Again these are relatively new. I'd give the well estabilshed methods a try first--DMPS, DMSA-- and let them get rid of most of the HMs before resorting to one of the newer products.
If you use ALA to try to move mercury out of your brain, be sure to use it frequently enough and after getting rid of HMs in your silver fillings, etc.
Again the FDC group files simplify the instructions and gives you another place to ask questions. There is a Cutler group in Facebook as well.

This is a reply to # 2,336,394I have an unusual health condition for trying chelation. I have a noname brain disorder for almost 7 years. I believe it was caused by a chemical trauma 7 years ago. Eyedrop medication(cyclogyl, prednisolone and maxidex for iritis treatment) somehow seeped into my brain during sleep and caused a very intense reaction in my brain. I managed to recover after a couple of days but a few days later, my noname brain disorder developed. My chronic symptom is constant tightness and pulsating at core of my brain causing constant mental exhaustion. I believe maybe some kind of toxic chemical/metal in the medication that seeped into my brain triggered my symptom/disease. I'm just trying chelation(chelating the body first before brain) hoping my symptom would get better.
I read ALA is the bullet for chelating the brain. But I think I'm going to do a typical herbal detox(12 days) to improve my liver and kidney before I start dmsa/dmps, then do the ALA combo. If this don't work, do quicksilver or nbmi. Maybe do IV chelation if that don't work. I guess this is the best way to go for me. Thanks

3 months ago I started chelation with DMSA+ALA+6.5 mg.
After first round i got urinary infection, after 2nd round floaters and white flashes. I stopped after that.
I am not sure what to do because I have 5 root canals and I don't know if I have some mercury inside of them. I removed all my amalgams.
I think I will be not able to o more chelation. Any advice?

DMSA can be tough on the immune system for some people.
I had to use DMSA for my lead problem and did not have much of a problem. However at the first onset of even a scratchy throat, I had to avoid detox for a week or so. Otherwise it tended to blow up into a full-blown sinus infection.
Taking *high dose* zinc lozenges such the one at lef.org have been quite helpful for this situation. I also have used a cvs zn tablet. Since starting on the lozenges I've not had the problem with the sinus infections. Maybe several years of detox have helped my immune system as well.
Remember vitamin D is important for the immune system.
Do you take the Cutler-recommended supporting supplements, esp Vit C, E, Zn, Mg?
I used to get eye "floaters" every few months for a number of years before detox. After a couple years of detox I have not had any. That is one of the very minor symptoms that greatly improved or went away with detox. Those are symptoms that would not have even made it onto a list of my symptoms at the beginning. I was trying to avoid ending up in a wheel chair due to bone density problem and trying to avoid a worsening of my kidney numbers. Thankfully both normalized after a couple years of detox.
Many people prefer to take DMPS along with ALA. It seems to provide a smoother ride.
With Hg under a root canal I'd expect strange headaches or strange sensations in the jaw plus other strange symptoms that you did not have before starting detox.
Maybe you just got a UTI coincidentally. Any history of them?
