Hi Cherin!
I love to hear that your doctor actually recommended a fast. Is this a natural health professional or MD?
Actually the only similar story I can recall is my naturopath, who recommended the
Master-Cleanse to me for colon cleansing. Her oncologist had her do 30 days to remove the toxins from radiation and chemo after her cancer treatment! It changed her life.
I would hold the "additives" like P&B for post-fast. The
Master-Cleanse just as written is a fantastic cleanser of all the internal organs--pancreas, kidneys, liver/gallbladder, and of COURSE the colon! Drink LOTS of extra water... don't skimp on the lemonade... you are FLUSHING the gunk out!
You probably read about my rather intense kidney crisis at day 18 when I passed a small calcification. Luckily I had support from my excellent naturopath and everything went well, but DO be assured the filters of your body are getting an excellent cleanse with the
Master-Cleanse just as it is.
You do not necessarily retain trash in your colon--not everyone does! This does not mean your system is not full of Stuff! MUCOUS is definitely the stuff we are working to get rid of, and is the cause of myriad illnesses! My whole family packs it in the intestines. My partner's family gunks up their arteries.
Particularly on a long fast, my naturopath has me do a series of professional colonics, one every ten days. I have done LOTS of colon cleanses, herbal etc., and NOTHING does the job like the MC and colonics. A good
colonic therapist can give you a pretty good idea how much you are blocked, if at all, and where the blocks are located. For example, an ordinary human being is clean as a whistle after a series of three. I am well into double digits and still not done after three years!
Rather than adding anything to the MC, I would suggest you find a GOOD
colonic therapist with state of the art equipment and do a series!
Another wonderful thing you can do to help things along is EXERCISE! Just a half hour easy walking each day will do amazing things to help your body detox. And if you are lucky enough to have the facilities, water--like jacuzzi, and STEAM are wonderful things to do during a long fast to help things along! SWEAT! Yoga is another good one, with a focus on abdominal stretching. Your yoga instructor will know just what to do. It is difficult to start any exercise program, but you will soon be hooked, and won't want to go a day without it! This will give you energy in the long run.
I will be away til the 18th (must go to the jungle!!), but will check in on you when I get back to see how you are coming along! I am so glad you have the support of a sympathetic health professional--it makes a big difference in a long fast.
I know the work you are doing will do wonderful things for your health. Keep at it and let the people here on this forum help you reach your goal!
I send you a big hug,
Somer
