hi im a 24year old girl and i have Acne problems, with scars on my face. while surfing the net, and visiting this site, i learnt that using crushed garlic cures Acne and scars.
i tried it. but i left it on my face for about 10 hours! and the result is that my skin is burnt!!! where the crushed garlic was placed. they r red patches.
im so desperate, im crying. i dont know what to do. please tell me if those big scars will go? im very stressed and very worried. feel like crying all the time. my face is very ugly now. lots of big dark red patches everywhere. its so ugly i cant think of going to college tomorrow! if u could only see my face!

im crying. we went to see the doc today, n he scolded me so much!!!!! my face is burnt! whereever the garlic was on my face, there r red patches of dead burnt skin. n when the skin will fall, my face will have a scar on it!! i mean a new pink skin.
all over my face! its so ugly im ashamed to walk on the streets. i havent been to uni today. asked dad to take me in his car to doc...
pls pls pls tell me what really happened to u.
doc said garlic is very toxic n burns the skin!
u know i left it on my skin for practically one whole day!!!
i'll never never never complain about my pimples or scars anymore, if those burns go away. i swear! i'll accept myself as i am!

This is a reply to # 419,489Sorry for the late reply. Your doctor does not seem like a very nice person. Anyway, this seems to be excactly the same as what happened to me. I still really wonder why the garlic created such a strong reaction. I would not call garlic toxic, but of course anything can be toxic when out of proportions. My theory is that with the garlic being a very "heating" substance, and that being applied to an area which is inflamed (already heat) makes a volcano at the patch of the skin. (Explanined in terms of chinese medicine hehe). So don't worry, you just have to let the lava from the volcano chill :)
I do not remember completely how long it took me, but i think it healed within a week. It doesn't hurt right?Advertisement

This is a reply to # 419,494thanks. no it doesnt hurt, except when i try to peal the dead skin myself...
it hurts a bit (burns) where i had many pimples near each other on my cheek. dead skin has fallen off...skin is dry. dead skin falling but very slowly.
i read garlic was good for scars too. so i applied it(it was very stupid of me, every1 is saying that to me!) everywhere on my face, on my scars as well as on my pimples...
i could have been more careful, and applied only the garlic's juice. but no i was greedy, n i crushed it roughly, n applied the paste everywhere as a mask for god knows how many hours!! and whereever the garlic paste was, the skin is burnt.
thank u for replying n encouraging me. it means so much to me. ur very nice:o)
but what im worried about, is whether it will leave scars. there r too many burnt patches on my face, if they leave scars, im doomed.

As for scarring, i do not know if it gave me scars or not, because
i always have some Acne or rosacea on those areas. But i can tell you that i am pretty sure it returned to how it was like before this incident. In other words, i was already scarred before this incident.
I understand that this can be a bit frustrating during the days the skin is reacting to the garlic.
I have also read that many people develop allergies to garlic, so there must be some irritant contained in this evil-smelling vegetable!Advertisement

This is a reply to # 419,502Well, the burns were quite deep coz there r holes in my face!!! the skin must grow...i hope it wont leave scars but im not sure! there r 2-3 places where the dead skin hasnt peeled off...its where i had lots of pimples close by.
im afraid it leaves scars there...
its terrible..
but did u go to the doc for ur pimples? i never went to a skin doctor...my doc really scolded me that day..i have to go again 2morrow...he said there r many medical treatments for acne! so what did u need to try something so toxic!! now every1 is saying its toxic! after it happened!

I got my face burned by Applying crushed garlic. I had Some Acne in my face, Saw online article to apply garlic for acne. I have applied not to just the Acne but also to the skin at the side as a result it burnt big areas on my face. I have applied it for an hour. Now the scabs are gone , skin turned pink initially and now to brown. Will it go away? If so, how long it will take to heal? I am unable to face myself. They are of size 2 quarters in both the cheeks. any remedies which helped people how suffered with garlic? Are there anyone whose skin got back to normal after the garlic burn?

This is a reply to # 419,482I'm no expert but this has helped me in the past: Take some Tylenol to help the burn, put some aloe vera on the spots and try to keep your body temp. cool (stay indoors). Drink lots of water, get plenty of rest and you'll be better soon.
Have you tried doing a liver cleanse to help with the acne? It helped me.

but these last months i was really stressed. really really stressed. hair falling etc. n then i started getting many many pimples.
but now my face is burnt!!!! do u think the aloe vera will remove the scars caused by the burnt??
i mean garlic burnt it, right, its not as if oil or hot water did it. pls tell me the scars will go away!!!
went to doc in the morning. he scolded me a lot. he said i wasnt to take any rubbish from the net n experience it in my face!! i really want to cry!

What did the doctor say about how to help the burns? The aloe vera will help a lot but I'm not an expert. I think the scars will go away with time.
We'll always have stress in our lives...sometimes a lot of stress. You'll need to find a way to cope with all the stress. Do you have family or friends to talk to? Maybe go to a counselor at uni which should be free.
Understanding how to handle stress is important. If you're in a stressful situation that can be changed then change it, but sometimes you have to tough it out.
Hang in there. Things will get better.

This is a reply to # 419,493im trying to overcome this stress...doing my yoga everyday...ive started to talk to my friends about my problems...or should i say my sadness, my worries,etc...
i should have done that long ago...kept to many things inside...i always do that!
doc asked me to come again on friday. he said he will give me a cream for the scars. he sounded so negative...
the skin (burnt ones) have started to fall off my face...but very slowly.
doc has given me a cleanser(antiseptic) and 2 creams for burns...have to applied them 2ce a day.
face is so ugly! shudder when i glance at the mirror!
i am not staring at the mirror these days...lol
mom is applying (very patiently) these creams everywhere for me.

This is a reply to # 419,488Hello Chandasa, I once used garlic on my face to try to get rid of a wart and it burned and made my nose red also. It eventually cleared up and the redness went away. You need to just chill out!
Relax and stay indoors for several days if you have to. Stay out of the sun also! Don't panic! Time is your best friend. Everyday that goes by your face will heal up more and more. Your situation is not permanent. I don't think you will be red for more than 2 weeks. Check back and let us know how you are doing. Many people get treated by dermatologists with chemical facial peels in which they apply glycolic acid to the face. These people are sometimes red for over a month. Also facial Laser peels leave a person with a red face for up to 8 weeks or more. I would drink a lot of distilled water, eat tons of vegetables, and drink wheat grass juice or liquid chlorophyll for several weeks to aid in your skin regeneration.
