Hi!
I've just started taking nutritional yeast to help reduce facial oiliness after reading about it in "The Encyclopedia of Natural Healing" (Alive Books, 2002). I've only been taking it for the past few days but already it seems to be helping.
Here is what the book says about it:
"Nutritional yeast contains vitamins B2, B5 and B6, which help reduce facial oiliness and blackhead formation. Nutritional yeast also provides zinc and chromium, which help reduce skin infections and act to balance
Sugar levels in the blood. Kefir-based yeast is the best source of nutritional yeast" (p.419).
"Nutritional yeast contains forty percent high-quality protein, and is the best food source of most of the B vitamins. It stimulates breast milk production, contains trace minerals, selenium, zinc, iron and chromium, which helps to activate the body's Glucose Tolerance Factor needed for
Sugar metabolization. It can be taken in powder form, one tablespoon with a half glass of juice, before meals, two to three times per day. It can also be sprinkled on salads, in sauces, on air-popped popcorn or in spreadable form on bread. It is rich in phosphorous and is best taken with a calcium supplement or calcium-rich foods such as sesame seeds" (p.117).
I've been taking this 3 times per day in a small glass of soy milk, as well as having a glass of carrot juice everyday and my skin is looking much better.
I have done bowel cleansing in the past with P&B shakes and I believe this helped me to get rid of my cystic acne...I am now trying to clear up some minor
Acne and the oiliness.
Topically, apple cider vinegar (in a concetration of two parts water to one part acv)applied on the skin once a day (I do it at bedtime) has also helped keep my skin smooth.
I hope this helps you!
love, una
