Began my 6th Master-Cleanse almost seven weeks ago. Here's how it's been.
Brief Personal Fasting History.
7 Day Water Fast four yrs ago.
40 Day Master-Cleanse in 2003. (of those 40, took E3 Live liquid supplement 4 days and did P&B "shake" midway through)
10 Day Master-Cleanse in 2004
30 Day MC in 2005
10 Day MC in 2006
False starts/Abandoned Attempts: countless
Goals w/Fasting:
to give my digestive system a break
clarity/peace of mind
to jumpstart weight loss
clean colon health
to alleviate depression
and most recently to tackle, head on, hypothyroidism
Disclosures: I often use limes instead of lemons. Taste better to me. Lemons are hybrid. I haven't yet, but I will, do a psyillium seed and Bentonite mix. I've learned that if you soak the volcanic ash (benonite) in room temp. H2O overnite, it won't be all clunky. The one time I did the P&B on MC I removed HUGE mucoid plaque ropes. The 2xs I've done P&B while not on the fast, said ropes never came. Also, on my first ever MC I added drops of Worm/ parasite Cleanse to my MC for six days and actually saw worms in the toilet bowl. Yuck. Plan to do another Days 53-60. Oh yeah, I prefer the cayenne capsules to the spicy lemonade. And oh yeah, sometimes substitute Ginger for Peppermint. Does the same thing: calms the tummy. Especially welcome after the dreaded SWF.
Finally began this fast after about 21 false starts, those days when you start the MC only to eat by sunset and say you'll start tomorrow/after the premierre/party/Monday/Sunday....For me, when it clicks though, I know it. And if I make it past Day 3 I'm good. Not so much because of the detoxing stages but because I HATE days 1 and 2.
Am working w/my holistic doc. here in NYC. Been getting acupuncture (abt 10 sessions) and Lymphatic Draining massages. I've continued to "Spin" at my gym (45 min. classes only) throughout my fast. I always have an extra tbs. of maple before my workout. Felt dizzy once. Got off my bike. I sauna/steam after each workout after learning that the skin is as good as the bowels for removing toxins. Applying same principle, I added Bikram or Hot Yoga classes to this fast. Bikram for me, has been amazing. I sweat like crazy and always look like I'm coming from getting a facial. Nice. Highly recommend. Ran around Central Park's reservoir this weekend and last. A mile and a half. Mostly I sit my ass down and write. I am a published author, a produced filmmaker and a professional procrastinator. I'm a little concerned that I'm only truly, consistently wroking while I'm fasting. But it's a nice reveal. I'm always learning things abt myself on my cleanses, which may be hard, but is priceless. Also, been completely celibate throughout the cleanse. Don't know why that matters, but it too is a pattern, not a recommendation, just my own weird pattern.
I try so hard not to weigh myself on the MC, but here are a few physiological effects:
Day 8/1st Weigh In: Lost 6lbs
Day 12/After 4 Bikram sessions: Lost an addition 10...in 4 days. Assuming it was water.
Day 20: 2lbs/tried not to get upset/obsessed, plus usually find I stall
Day 30: Total Weight Loss: 24lbs (hate that men alyway lose more than us!)...quote from my diary.
Day 40: 30 lbs down...yay!
Day 48: 38 lbs down...nice.
I'm sure that I fluctuated during that period. I remember on my 3rd MC I did, it drove me crazy to be gaining a lb. or 2 while fasting, almost thru my scale out. Didn't, but managed to exercise restraint this time around. Hid my scale in a closet that is full of other boxes/stuff I don't want to deal with it.
About those eliminations...
Did the SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) pretty faithfully first month (at least 21 days of it)...
Days 1-7 alarmingly solid elimnations.
Week 2: more butt pee than anything
Week 3: Lots of hockey puck/black walls of my colon eliminations
Week 4: More butt pee. One day of nothing, even after a SWF
Weeks 5 and 6: mostly Get Regular Yogi Tea...huge, runny elimination on Day 41, which always makes one go Wha?
I'll add E3Live the final ten days of my fast. Algae essentially. Fruits cleanse, vegetables nourish. Plan to juice kale/apple/ginger/cucumbers daily post cleanse ala Nathalia Rose's Raw Food Detox Diet.
Other Big Reading Thing: Daniel P. Reid's The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity. And of course the always helpful, usually supportive posts on Curezone...

This is a reply to # 855,630i go to bed. went to bed @ 8pm on Day 2. have known to take a walk when i'm too tempted. i have vivid dreams abt eating...i call them food porn. always have one or two whenever i cleanse. that's when i wake up:)

I REEEEELY enjoyed your post! What you are going through is very similar to my 60 day fast two years ago, supervised by my excellent naturopath for the major goal of colon cleansing. It took me FOUR YEARS of dedicated effort, but I finally turned 50 with a clean pink colon!
The only big difference I note (I also continued to work out every day barring crises and LOVED the steam room) is that I did a professional colonic every 10 days, an amazing experience.
All the gunk you mention sounds very familiar, and I am happy to report I no longer see those rocks, ropes or other antique trash in my potty during a cleanse. I am on day 8 of a maintenance MC, and feel absolutely supersonic. I will do a colonic on Friday, really a treat. I used to spend an hour watching unspeakable trash passing through the tube, and now I see an hour of clean water circulating through my newly healed colon!
The other Biggie for me has been the liver flush. All the colon cleansing I did failed to clear up my chronic skin troubles ("adult acne" and "rosacea"). After 5-6 Liver Flushes at 2 week intervals I passed 30-40 beautiful jade green stones the size of small prunes (!). After the Big Flush I have had absolutely NO skin problems, a true miracle for me.
Many times while cleansing I have had my eyesight improve, sometimes dramatically. Recently I went for a new prescription, thinking I needed stronger glasses, and was pleased to find my eyes had actually improved in a permanent way, by a full point!
I live in Mexico, and there is a bug here related to the dreaded South American kissing bug. An attack used to send me to the clinic with full on anaphylactic shock, scary stuff... after five years of cleansing a bite is not much worse than a big mosquito. Amazing!
BTW, on day 45 of my 60 day fast I experienced True Hunger for the first time. It was nothing like the stomach shrinking sensations early in a fast, but rather a dull ache in the solar plexus no amount of lemonade would fill. My wonderful naturopath had me switch to fresh juices on day 48 and I went on to 60 feeling absolutely bionic!
Another thing -- before working out I like to dissolve 1 T. BLACKSTRAP molasses in a cup of hot water and drink like tea for an extra boost. It is far more supportive than maple for exercisers, and is still part of the Master-Cleanse protocol.
Of course the big challenge is to keep from putting the trash back IN... a challenge I accept as a lifetime goal!

I did cramp up yesterday during Bikram, but I drank some Smart Water and was ok. So inspired to hear abt your vision and your skin. I don't know why I've been holding back on a Liver Flush. and God knows I need it (i realized during this fast that since my dad and stepdad's deaths over the past two yrs. i have a drink like, every night) I really want to do the liver flush...whose did you do? Waaal, podna, there's a bunch of Liver Flush recipes. I started with the Standard Issue epsom salt/EVOO/grapefruit juice routine, which works just dandy.
However, I have a slight aversion to grapefruit juice anyhow, and the mixture tastes like a Greek milkshake! My tendency (and I've heard this from others on the Liver-Flush forum) is to get nauseated when I have my best flushes, and there can be reflux. This led me to try a mixture of 1/2 c. Hain cold pressed walnut oil, and the juice of a lemon (or lime--I live in Mexico and that's what we have laying around) plus enough fresh OJ to make 1/2 cup.
It sounds a whole lot weirder than it is. It's actually very simple plumbing 101, just like most body cleansing... when fats leave the stomach they trigger the gallbladder to send down bile from the liver to digest the stuff. During a Liver Flush you ingest a considerable amount of oil, and a considerable amount of bile is sent down the ducts, squirt squirt squirt! That's it!
So regardless of what recipe you use, the main issues to me are to start clean -- there is a great protocol for a green apple flush on sensiblehealth.com that calls for you to fast on green apple juice for a couple days, through the pm of the flush. It uses no epsom, which I like for my partner Carlos who has had heart surgery. You can also just eat a very clean diet for a couple days, low fat. The day of the flush eat NO fat, and stop eating at 2pm. If you are dying, eat a green apple, or just drink the juice.
Then, use enough oil for a good flush. I think 2T is not enough, and 2c is overkill. I have a great flush with 1/2 cup, and 1 cup total juice and oil is not too much to chug down (for a veteran hard core cleanser like me!! lol). I chill my mixture in a shaker jar til bedtime...
Then when you go to bed, take your gunk with you and shake like crazy to emulsify! Chug 'er down as best you can (like drinking salad dressing, but doable). Some people suck a mint after, to help kill the ick! response.
THEN... lie on your right side for at least an hour. After this time the flush has taken place and it doesn't much matter what you do, but do try to Hold the Pose til the squirt squirt squirt thing happens.
You did it!!! Gold star!
The next day I like to start with an enema, as the swf is a little much after the above. You want your colon as clean as possible so you get a good look at what comes down! It is very common to pass MANY small stones that look just like frozen green peas, color and all! Also common is "chaff", which is flakes of cholesterol (guess where that is made!). Also... lots of old bile, in technicolors as we are used to from fasting.
You need to eat light and clean the day after the flush, then go easy for a bit more... let your body recover for two weeks, then REPEAT! It took me 5-6 before I hit the Mother Lode, passed 30-40 beautiful jade green stones the size of prunes! Unbelievable unless you go to the Liver-Flush page and look at the pictures people send in. Since then, my skin has been unbelievable, and I largely attribute the permanent changes in my eyesight to the combination of colon and liver cleansing.
A hassle? Not like gallbladder surgery! You bet. They wanted to whack out Carlos's and we said no thanks. We flushed the living tar out of that sucker and he is all better! Imagine that.
WELL worth any inconvenience, slight discomfort etc. Just like fasting. If you can do your sixty days you are INVINCIBLE! And we both know you can do that!

Day 10 for me tomorrow, off to the wonderful colonic therapist! It's been a really good flush and I feel spectacular. I did a day of water yesterday and really cut a bunch of extra stuff loose. I've never done that before, but it felt right. I would agree it is very deeply cleansing, but it doesn't keep your energy level high like juice does.

of ground ginger to the oil potion, I have and I
can *testify* that ended my nausea. I sometimes
just add a half-teaspoon and I sometimes add the
tumeric too. I think Telman's experimentation may
have provided those little modifications. I love
it and am so much more comfortable.
I'm with you though, Liver Flushing is an integral
part of cleansing and especially is useful after a
long cleanse or fast since fasting does promote the
formation of stones.

like you are going to easily make the last 12
days. I appreciate especially that you shared
that you have had many false starts before you
finally grabbed on and held on. This is important
to hear since so many feel like failures and it
is important to realize that the only failure is
not getting up and taking another go at it.
You have already won~!
I am also really glad to hear you are being
supervised somewhat since it really helps make
a longer cleanse more comfortable knowing you
have a support system when making some major
health choices.
Also, after my longer cleanses, I would find
that I continued to lose weight and my weight
shifted too. THANK you for advocating hiding
your scale. I know, after this long, that you
can also attest that there are many benefits
from cleansing/fasting that are not reflected
on the scale...
