it is usual for some women to bleed quite a bit after removal and a blood clot is normal in so far as when you are bleeding excessively, the body tries to clot it, to slow the bleeding down a little. Some women bleed a lot after removal because the body is trying to quickly adjust the hormones etc, others bleed due to a minor injury which clears itself up over the next few days. clots can get quite big if you are losing a lot of blood - when i had my polyps and thickened uterus lining (which i will no doubt get again, now that the mirena is out of me..) my clots were about 5 to 6 inches
long and almost an inch
wide - they reminded me of those magic slugs in one of the harry potter films, if you have seen it lol..anyway, they were coming every 15mins or so, which was rather debilitating to say the least, and was the reason i had mirena in the first place. So clotting itself, in the first few days i would say is nothing too much to worry about. Also, although i didnt have any pain, some people do experience some pain, but it should be more of a dull ache/bruising rather than acute pain. If you are still in severe pain now and you continue to bleed alot constantly then you may have something else going on inside, so an ultrasound scan at the least, is worth getting. You may have been injured internally by the mirena removal(it may have been slightly embedded in the uterus for example, which the doctor couldnt see when they removed it), or you may have had a miscarriage. Either way, i would treat that as an emergency. I would go to your doctor TODAY, or better still, get yourself down to the emergency department of your local hospital, and explain to them that you have had the mirena removed, that you have had acute pain, that you have been bleeding for however long and that you have passed something along with your blood clot and that you are not sure if you have had a miscarriage or what. (that should get them moving!!) Hopefully it would not have been a miscarriage or any serious injury inside, it may simply have been a loose piece of flesh that had come away with the mirena and was now coming out of your system, but to be honest, you need a medical opinion on this, not guesswork, so you really need to get down to see someone today, to make sure you are ok and if you are not ok, at least they can begin to deal with it.
When you get home, even if they say you are ok, lie down with a nice hot water bottle near your tummy and give yourself time to relax and recover a bit. Please let us know how you get on, next time you feel able to sit up at a computer and type. Fingers crossed it is nothing serious:) I will be thinking of you.XX
