In order to kill the mosqito larva for WEST NILE VIRUS, BT larvacide was and probably still is used.

Apple Cider Vinegar is also used by some people on house plants (diluted mixture), but the acid is questionable in the garden because changing the chemistry of the environment might be too much of a gamble.
