I agree with what you are saying.
Added to this is the event of the flood of Noah's day. There used to be a thick cloud canopy over the earth with a greenhouse effect(explaining the reason why scientists sometimes dig up "wooly mammoths" above the arctic circle) that warmed the earth. However, with the event of the flood, much of the minerals were washed away into the sea, and the now increased ultraviolet light has oxidized and made inactive some of the minerals we need. Additionally because of the event of increased rain, and the resultig soil erosion, the minerals have also been depleted further.
That is my theory on it, anyway.
