I agree with you that spiritual phenomena should not be confused with schizophrenia, though demonic involvement can, in some cases, lead to mental illness against which psychiatry is sometimes effective.
In my case, since late Summer, I was seen by three different well-reputed psychiatrists and none of them gave me a diagnosis of schizophrenia, even though they do not believe in evil spirits; the reason they gave me is that I am way too well functioning -- able to perform at work (physical therapy), hold an intelligent conversation, and also because of lack of flat effect, selfishness and other typical symptoms. They're fascinated with my case, and though hesitant to diagnose me prescribed some antipsychotic medications. I've tried four so far with little effect against the voices. I'm not giving up on the medicine; there may be some pills that will help close the channals, but!... by far the most effective treatment for me, one responsible for my growing stronger and more functional despite the voices has been Christian deliverance, which I whole-heartedly recommend to all researching this forum for help in dealing with a condition that may be related to demonic oppression.
