This is a reason that many vegetarians are not healthy ... the grains and fruit. Fruit can be acidifying, especially if we are unbalanced. Once we get better, then in moderation it is fine.
Dr. Cousens book is really interesting on this ... he has been running a famous retreat and rejuvenation center in New Mexico for quite a while, and he is quite famous from his earlier books (such as "Conscious Eating") ... then he came accross Dr. Young's work which expanded upon his own.
He had a gourmet raw food restaurant, the whole nine yards ... and Dr. Cousens had been vegan and pretty healthy for years. People went out there to get well. But, after studying Dr. Young, he decided to try giving up fruit, and all sweeteners for a couple of months, except for certain very low Sugar fruits like lemon and grapefruit. His whole staff wanted to try it with him, but he persuaded them to wait and let him do the guinea pig thing.
After just a couple of weeks, his energy level shot up, even higher than it had been, and he felt stronger...so the staff joined him on the trial. Now, for the last couple of years, the whole place is converted to an alkalizing raw food style, and he has published a book on it.
The acids from the pathogens are what do the worst damage to the blood, to the cholesterol count, etc... it is the bodies attempt to protect us from the poison. It takes a lot of commitment to really rid ourselves of them on a grand scale, and once it is done, we can relax more in term so diet and we will be able to handle it.
