HI Californiagirl, I don't agree with givinup. I think you should try Mirena. I find that women who don't have any "period" problems and use Mirena strictly for birthcontrol purposes find the side effects unberable. Women like us, on the other hand, who suffer from excruciating pain and long periods might not find the side effects quite as bad.
I've had my Mirena for almost six weeks now and although it hasn't been smooth sailing, I feel better than I did pre-insertion. I was just thinking the other day, if I got Mirena 10-15 years ago, when my cycles were fine, I would probably hate it too and have it ripped out of me by this point, but thanks to my condition - endometrioses - so far, I'm not complaining too loudly.
You won't know whether Mirena will work for you if you don't try it. Good luck.
