I actually got mine for painful periods and excessive bleeding, not birth control and I still had all of these problems.
That said, there are a lot of people that like the Mirena and don't have any problems. That is why I got mine in the first place. I had a couple of friends that had it and loved it.
I say if you feel like it might be good for you, try it. As long as you know what the side effects are, you can recognize them early and have it removed at the first sign of problems. Just remember that your symptoms can start several months or even years after insertion.
