Re: Can't Slumber with My Husband - Think We're Headed for Separate Bedrooms - Advice?

Thanks again for your thoughts. I just wanted to point out that we've been together for much longer - 13 1/2 years, but 3 /12 living under the same roof. I know what you mean about the little things, and I still don't know which way this slumbering issue is going to go, but we do have lots of other "little things" that we share and intimacy in other ways. I want to try to adapt to sleeping with him if I can, but really for the past 3 1/2 years in this house, I've only slept in bed with him maybe 50% of the time, if that, and if anything our relationship is stronger. Sleep is so fundamentally important, as Mollie mentioned above about her husband not being able to function in basic tasks when he's very short on sleep, and if I had to choose being sleep deprived but being in the same room with him every night vs. reasonably well rested but sleeping apart, I think I'd choose the latter. For sure I'll live longer, and I won't be "mad at him" for keeping me up all night!

Actually, the more I think about it, I know the relationship isn't going to desintegrate if I have to resort to sleeping in another room permanently, it'll be inconvenient from a space issue, and I'm not giving up on it yet, but I know we won't be worse off. Truth is, I think he prefers it, too. Last night I slept on the futon again cause I went to bed with a headache, but this morning I got up and went into the bedroom to snuggle for awhile and tell him about a dream I had where I found him doing laundry in the middle of the night and he was dressed up like a woman - LOL! Thank god that was just a dream.... we had a good laugh over that one.
