In regard to distilled water, in the past there have been scientists/researchers outside the orthodoxy who observed and understood that rolling water had energy and charges created by small vortexes and running past weak magnetic fields (kinds as created by magnetite). So, while the water may contain inorganic solids the body couldn't use, it also contained energy that did the body a great deal of good (and, perhaps, some of those solids became charged in a way that made them beneficial). A similar example could be apples, which contain carcinogens, but also contain other compounds like pectin to prevent damage by them. Many herbs contain compounds that play against each other this way (which is partly why the modern big pharma approach is all wrong) so the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
So, if you can find a pristine stream, by all means, drink it. Clean, moving water is the ideal.
However, most of us get our water from tainted municipal sources or contaminated ground water. In these cases, distilled water is definitely the way to go. People adapt to changing circumstances, just as nature does.
