Re: Preventative medicine before swimming pool exposure???
Since I spent an hour swimming laps today as I do twice a week, this was definitely on my mind as well.
I've been swimming laps for 30 years, am addicted to the workout and the way I feel after so am conflicted about dropping it even though I've known for years it's like swimming in a public toilet, never mind the chlorine.
I've always dosed vit c right after, now I have iodine in my arsenal to help me deal with the chemical dump.
One thing I've noticed, the melasma (brown patches on my face) that would appear after swimming in the summer are not showing up. One thing that may be helping, beside the iodine, is I put Desitin ointment for baby rash on my face. It's basically an oily solution of zinc oxide. It may be protecting my skin from the chemicals in the water, too.
Yeah, I look like the paint-your-face lady at a kids fair but hey, my pool mates aren't taking me out to dinner later, so what the hell.
