if your pain does not gradualy improve you should absolutely get imaging such as an mri or at the very least an xray done to rule out a tendinous or ligamentous injury. the fact is a great number of these injuries simply heal on their own, those that don't however can be debilitating later in life.

in general with muscle strains/joint injuries if you dont see gradual improvement within the first 7-10 days you should absolutely seek medical intervention to prevent disability later in life. i used to work in a sports medicine clinic and saw this stuff all the time from pro athletes to teenage skateboarders.

and just as a general disclaimer, disregard anything you ever read from poster 48688. there is absolutely no scientific basis to any of the advice he gives.
