She's been on the same diet for years now and they usually get chunks of meat they have to chew, so no gulping generally occurs. She is also very good about chewing her food.

I think large amounts of charcoal can definitely cause issues, because of the increased absorption effect. She only gets one capsule as needed. Which may be once a month or once every other week, depending on symptoms she shows.
