I have an hypothesis as to the supposed "genetic" link to elevated triglycerides and cholesterol. I don't think it has anything to do with liver function per se. Rather, it seems logical that there could be a genetic precursor for smaller and/or less elastic billiary tubing and hepatic ducts, making blockages more common. I say this because it seems like these conditions develop slowly over time, rather starting from get go.
My trigylcerides continously went up, despite medication. I was told by my doctors that I have a genetic problem, and that I wouldn't bring down my triglycerides without medication. I think it's hooey. My liver works fine. After my first flush and subsequently modifying my diet (mostly cutting back on portions at dinner time and trying to add some good stuff back to the diet), I've lost close to 20 pounds and are probably pretty close to what my ideal weight should be. Without medication, my triglycerides fell close to 400 points in the space of about 6 weeks. It's been about a month since I last had them checked, and I'm really curious to see where there at now.
