I don't understand why we would have to take a break since many societies around the world are eating fermented foods and beverages everyday, and even many times a day.
They are only beneficial, in my opinion.
You can also look in to fermented vegetables, like raw sauerkraut, kimchi,...
I made a kefirkraut. It is a cabbage fermented with kefir grains. It only takes 5 days to have a sauerkraut-like.
