 I'm sorry, but what is a 'citric acid wash'? Lemon or lime juice and water? I'm afraid I don't know - could you explain? I can order water kefir but while I'm waiting I would like offer something for him to use.

You can get pure citric acid at some health food stores, craft stores in the candy making section, Indian markets or wine making supply companies.  It should be around $4 a pound.  I recommend a heaping teaspoon to 16 ounces of water.

Hv, I take it you don't recommend using iodine is that true?

Yes, and it can give you a nice pseudo-tan  in the process
