no doubt that povidone has petrochemical ingredients, although i believe they are quite stable and inert.

i have put a bottle of povidone in baths before. its pretty cool. the Iodine is captured in some kind of plastic polymer so that it releases slowly. you get the action of the Iodine without much staining. the plastic stuff eventually floats in the water and can coat the skin till you rub it off.
