I'll tell you what. When I was a kid I would burn so badly and easily in the sun it was ridiculous. I would peel, blister and sometimes get ill.
I take vitamin C to bowel tolerance, which for me is about 40 grams daily. I also get a good amount of vitamin E at around 200 IU daily. Along with the selenium as well.
I spend allot of time in the sun now and I do not burn, period. I think antioxidant status has something to do with whether you burn or not, which might also influence the risk of melanoma.
