I used to sunburn easily as I am a touch of redhead myself, what changed this to the (much)better was coconut oil (EVCO) both as food and on my skin.
Avoiding other vegetable oils as they oxidize easily; IMO these are a contribution factor for developing melanomas.
I make my bodylotion of EVCO, aloe and a little iodine. For tanning I put on a little extra zinc oxide cream (baby bottoms salve works well) after one hour or so; as this is when my skin may start to burn.
