You might like the price break now, but hopefully it doesn't affect your health adversely. As far as cost, nearly exery single person I have spoken to who had the smart meter put in saw an increase in their rates, not a decrease. This is one of the controversies about it. Good luck.
I'm not getting any price break and I don't want the extra non-visible polution. I've already switched mostly to wired networking and hope to have it be pure wired networking in the near future. Interestingly, I've been receiving lower than normal electric bills - mostly since I'm not using the A/C as much or heat. That was one of my original concerns, higher bills - but they justify it with new, more accurate meters.
As a word of advice, if you suspect that your meter is not working correctly, please contact your energy service provider that controls the meters. There is software in the smart meters that sets variables and attributes. One surprise to me is the energy multiplier, it sets how much energy you consume and multiplies it by that factor - IT†BETTER†BE ONE (1)!!!
What this means is that the smart grid, as part of the energy grid, is barely regulated.
The energy grid is a form of Undernet, it will allow devices unparalled access to call home or any other requestor. Technically, per above Dangers of Meter Data article, it does not fall under constitutional protection since the meter is outside. If anything is sending data about what is going on inside your home, then it better DAMN fall under constitutional protection about what's going on in your home. Police are aware of high energy usage as an indicator of people that grow Pot, working to raid homes and make arrests. Interestingly, Pot usually makes people mellow and commit less crimes for the most part, but it's not true for a few out there.
Some people will suffer†sickness†from the extra RF in the air, coupled with smart technology calling home all the time, combine to smog up the RF air of the home. I'd rather not have such wireless technology operating UNTIL there is NEED like a Refrigerator signaling a problem such as cooling failure, etc. Polling RF smart meters every 15 minutes is unwarranted in my opinion, but it does store a lot of data that many want - more than the energy companies only.
