Magnesium co-factors

From what I understand, it's the b-complex vitamins, as well as selenium, manganese and vitamin E that work together with magnesium. If your blood serum is saying you're normal on magnesium level, then perhaps you actually are getting enough of it in your daily diet.

I have been looking at this issue, as myself I have been supplementing with magnesium and vitamin D for the past six months, with varying results. Using vitami D at 5,000 iu without magnesium gave relaxation (in the midst of insomnia), but no natural sleep results - I think I got -some- magnesium in my diet, but nowhere near enough to match the balance.

Currently it's high summer here, and I just tan instead of dose. I cut the magnesium too, after switching to a more absorbable multivitamin (100 mg of magnesium a day).

I was experiencing emotional swings almost right after taking straight magnesium - first a bit of anxiety within the half-hour, then a bit of racing thoughts, and then after a brief nap, uncontrollable crying/stress. You know.. the sort that just doesn't fit with your normal patterns! I don't have issues with the muscle aches/spasms, but the high sensitivity to magnesium makes me suspect my amalgams/health state.

I've been depressive on and off since developing type 1 diabetes, and the type 1 diabetes came within one year after my first Amalgam fillings. Within two months of the fillings, I had tenderness at the solar plexus and fever/aches, and we couldn't figure out what was wrong. Mercury interfering with the metabolic processes of the pancreas? Bing-O!

Take a look at your teeth or diet. If you've been a fan of swordfish, tuna, cheap fish-oil capsules, sharksteaks, etc, you may have managed to accumulate a light mercury load. Take a look too at your dental history against your other neurological issues, you may see some correllations.

However, I'd make a suggestion - try tanning 2 times a week, 7-20 minutes for each side of naked midday sun exposure, and 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses (organic) to help with the mineral needs.

Here's the classic nutritional table on molasses:

Nutrient Amount DV
(%) Nutrient
Density World's Healthiest
Foods Rating
manganese 0.36 mg 18.0 10.1 excellent
copper 0.28 mg 14.0 7.8 excellent
iron 2.39 mg 13.3 7.4 very good
calcium 117.53 mg 11.8 6.6 very good
potassium 340.57 mg 9.7 5.5 very good
magnesium 29.38 mg 7.3 4.1 very good
vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) 0.10 mg 5.0 2.8 good
selenium 2.43 mcg 3.5 1.9 good

Note the manganese and copper. Both are essential in neurological function.

I'm getting more and more to the conclusion that testing, logging, discretion and time is the best way to examine these things.
OTC supplements -do- throw things out of the balance when the body reaches the amount of the nutrient it needs. It's harder to get an imbalance on natural foods.

However, under the conditions of suffering (my case above stated!) There is not a single ounce of shame from looking for something to ease the troubles.

I'm collecting what I can to make a post at the vitamin D council facebook page, the cases of muscle aches and wobbly emotions makes me curious as to what's causing the issues. Thanks for continuing to post, Hixxy :)
