Re: carrageenan

What are your thoughts on carrageenan? It's in my soymilk and I just read that this can cause issues with fertility. Their claim is that it is derived from galactose, which is a sugar found in milk. Is this true or just another "anti soy" claim?

I don't know where people come up with this stuff.  Carrageenan is derived from Irish moss, not milk or galactose.

And there is a lot of negative press about carrageenan based on certain animal studies that do not correlate to humans.  For example, they use carrageenan in some studies to induce inflammation by injecting it in to the tissues.  That also does not mean it will happen from human ingestion.  Food grade carrageenan has been shown to be perfectly safe for human consumption.
