There had to be the possibilities of idiots all over the place because the descendants of Adam and Eve were marrying brothers and sisters and eventually cousins. 

Bottom line is the human race didn't originate with Adam and Eve (thank God).

Genesis 1 has a completely different creation story, different creation sequence, and man and woman were created separately and equally by the Gods (plural) which has been buried by modern translators in both the Hebrew and "Christian" bibles - the Elohim.  Humans were created in God's image, both male and female and the Elohim (7 males and 7 females) were those creators.

Genesis 1:26-27

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

That passage was altered many times after humans falsely decided that God is one male being.  Early Hebrew archeological images of God are that God is both male in female - something that has been eradicated in our male dominated world.
