100mg of L-Theanine works sort of similar to .25mg of Ativan. It is the natural ingredient in green tea that has a calming effect. It signals the GABA receptors like Ativan does. Jarrow Formulas is a good brand.
IntestiNew (contains L-Glutamine) has made a lot of difference for me, too.
To the OP,
I used to have horrible morning anxiety. I find that if I eat little to no carbs before bed it is better, but I must eat something close to bed time to keep my blood Sugar stabilized which helps to combat morning anxiety as well. It is normally a little meat, veggie and a healthy fat for me. Another thing is I'm allergic to dust mites and that was another contributor to my anxiety, through allergies. I bought a dust mite mattress protector that zips up as well as a pillow protector.
Make sure you drink water before bed as well as dehydration can increase your heart rate.
