I actually think there is wisdom in this article about "emotional" or "energetic" vampirism. Kind of a strong word but I do believe there are people that prey on other peoples energy and people due to their issues, let them. I have met them, both sides of the coin. But as they say in AA, take what you like and leave the rest.
