Re: Anyone tried Inversion therapy for depression?

I regularly treat clients with inversion for depression. It is a classic yoga therapy cure. The reason is not as simple as increased blood supply to the brain although this is part of the picture. One of the main reasons is that inversion initiates slowing down of brain waves in various parts of the brain. While we are mainly in beta wave activity we are processing consciously mental loops which can be positive but, in the case of depression, are clearly negative. As the brain activity slows down to Alpha or even Beta wave levels then the conscious mind slows down its choosing and judging activity and makes a better and more relaxed connection with the unconscious mind. In this state it is easier to see the big picture, to make insights into one's own mental processes and habits and to make new connections. One of the most transforming things one can do in this state is to simply let go of old fixed concepts. This is not the whole picture either. During inversion the breathing slows down, the inbreath becoming shorter ( because you have to make an effort to lift the diagphragm ) and long outbreaths. These long outbreaths clear stale air from the lungs and more importantly, flush the small capillaries in the brain and increase cell and organ oxygenation. The combination of alpha wave brain activity and increased oxygenation along with rebalancing to the hormone system and the neurological system is a powerful and highly complex resetting of the human energies. The results are: increased energy, calmness, happiness and groundedness. I have had many cases of hormonal imbalance, whip lash, depression, neurosis, brain injury, back and neck injuries cured with inversion. That said, there is a right and a wrong way of doing it for each individual. Blanket instructions such as: this is the way to cure headaches with inversion are misleading. Each individual has a headache for an individual reason and healing and cures need to be individually applied. We live in an age of magic bullets and pills. These seldom bring health, they may bring suppression of symptoms. Hope this helps. There is more information on my site, http://www.inversiontherapy.net
