Chlorinated swimming-pool fine?

I wonder how bad it would be if I go to swim in chlorinated pools once a week or so, if I am constantly putting Iodine into my body as a competing halogen?

Would I be protected or would this just be an unnecessary burden on my body and a waste of Iodine when it could do other useful things than trying to keep out the incomming chlorine?

My thought is that our burden is so high that these amounts of additional waste from taking a swim 2-3 hours per week in chlorinated water is in relation not worth mentioning.

I mean there are many other sports, but I love swimming and would like to know if I could return to do it after I stopped out of fear of chlorine entering my fragile system
