JLE,

I think a regular dentist could determine that for you. If you have receding gums or deep periodontal pockets then yes, that could be a sign of periodontal disease. Gingivitis is red or swollen gums--again, pretty easy for a good dentist to diagnose.

Oral pathologists are pretty damn expensive. Just to see the pathologist that I saw was an instant $400!
