We have been having problems with acetaldehyde in our family, whether it is from candida or from histamine producing bacteria it doesn't matter, you still have to get rid of it or you will get symptoms. (Histamine produces another acetaldehyde when it is broken down.)
I have finally succeeded in figuring out which vitamins are the real cofactors to get rid of acetaldehyde, (because there are so many aldehyde dehydrogenases) and you have to take some of them in surprisingly high amounts. Everyone who has candida should think about giving this a try to see if it help with their symptoms. It doesn't do anything to get rid of the candida, it just helps get rid of the symptoms that the candida is giving you.
The amounts of the vitamins that an individual will need varies depending on their diet and how much acetaldehyde they have to get rid of. They should be taken 3 times a day with meals for the best results.
Niacin can be taken as regular niacin, which causes a flush, but if you build up to 2 grams with each meal then you hardly flush any more. Niacinamide doesn't cause flushing, but you can only take up to about 4 grams a day before it causes nausea. Hexanicotinate is non flushing and you can take a lot of it, but it is expensive. It is part inositol, so check the label to see how much actual niacin is in each capsule; usually you have to take 3-4 capsules to get a gram.
some form of niacin 1-3 grams with each meal
magnesium 200-400 mg with each meal (the lower amount with the lower amount of niacin.)
Vitamin C 1-2 grams with each meal
pantothenic acid (B5) 1-2 grams with each meal
If you have allergies or if you have histamine producing bacteria in your gut then you will also need:
methylfolate or folinic acid 5 mg a day
B12 5000 mcg a day
B6 200 mg or P5P 100 mg a day.
It is a good idea to take a good multivitamin, too, but I imagine most people here on curezone already do.
